225 g (1/2 lb) 1 1/4 cups chick'peas, cooked until soft
2 medium sized onions
2 cloves garlic
4 tbsp (60 ml) oil
2 tsp (10 ml) cumin seeds
2 tsp (10 ml) ground coriander
1 tsp (5 ml) ground turmeric
2 tsp (10 ml) ground paprika
1.5 ml (1/4 tsp) cayenne pepper
2/3 cup (150 ml) 1/4 pt cooking liquid
1 tbsp (15 ml) tomato puree (paste)
2 tbsp (30 ml) chopped mint
2/3 cup (150 ml) 1/4 pt natural yogurt (plain yogurt)
1. Finely chop the onions and garlic.
2. Heat the oil in a saucepan on a low heat.
3. Stir in the onions, garlic and spices and cook them until the onions are soft.
4. Stir in the chick peas and tomato paste.
5. Pour in the cooking liquid and bring it to the boil.
6. Cover and simmer gently for 30 minutes.
7. Serve with the chopped mint scattered over the top accompanied by a bowl of yogurt.
